But if you are identifying the fact that some enquiries are less than entirely rigorous and far from independent, you'd be right. And some minds are certainly closed to the results.<br /><br />However, <i>"Why bother to investigate anything? This is the lesson we need to learn. Just think of the cost savings!"</i> is more than a little over the top. It seems to be true that the police already take your advice far too seriously and fail to investigate many crimes.
